When you want a room to look and feel right, the finish matters as much as the color. Nugent Painting LLC has been delivering quality interior house painting in Utica NY and across Oneida County for over 30 years. We work clean, we pay attention to detail, and we don’t leave until the job looks the way it should. Whether you’re refreshing a single room or painting an entire home from top to bottom, you’ll get the same careful preparation, the same quality materials, and the same honest craftsmanship every time.

A fresh coat of paint does more than change a color — it changes how a space feels. We paint walls, ceilings, and trim throughout homes and commercial properties across Utica, New Hartford, Rome, and the wider Mohawk Valley. Every job starts with thorough surface prep: filling cracks and nail holes, sanding rough spots, protecting your floors and furniture, and taping everything cleanly before a drop of paint is applied.
We use quality paints with excellent hide and durability, and we’re happy to discuss low-VOC and eco-friendly paint options for homeowners who are concerned about indoor air quality — especially important in homes with young children, pets, or allergy sensitivities. These paints perform just as well as conventional products and keep your living environment healthier during and after the project.
A few things we handle as part of standard interior work:
If your walls have damage that goes beyond cosmetic, our drywall installation and repair services can have surfaces looking sound and smooth before the painting ever begins.

Replacing kitchen cabinets is expensive. Refinishing them is not — and when it’s done right, the results are dramatic. Cabinet work requires a different level of preparation and technique than wall painting. Doors are removed and painted separately to avoid runs and brush marks. We use paints and primers specifically suited for cabinetry — formulations that level out smoothly and cure to a hard, wipeable surface that holds up to daily kitchen use.
Modern interior paints perform well in temperature-controlled indoor environments year-round. As long as your home is heated — which it will be — there’s no reason to wait until May to refresh your living room, update your kitchen cabinets, or repaint bedrooms before a family visit. We work efficiently and keep disruption to a minimum, so winter projects rarely interfere with everyday home life the way you might expect.
Scheduling a winter project also means your home is looking its best before the spring and summer entertaining season arrives. It’s a practical choice that more and more of our customers are making.

Jason is the consummate professional and perfectionist who’s exceptionally talented, easy to work with and his attention to details is unmatchedPosted on Google Greg MorraTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found Jason via searching for a painter, checked his reviews, and noticed someone familiar rating him. It was all go from there. Jason was very particular, neat, and did a great job. Easy to work with. I highly recommend him.Posted on Google Cathie DestitoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Was great to work with throughout the process.Posted on Google Wayne GrayTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. UPDATE 1/17/26: Jason is back! He was very sorry about my experience and did everything he could to make it right, including fixing Tony's mess and finishing the parts of the house we hadn't been able to paint yet. He's a stand-up guy who really cares about the quality his clients receive. He's a great painter and I would hire Jason again for other projects. -------------------------- I had originally met with Jason, the owner of Nugent Painting. An emergency came up and he turned my project over to his "buddy" Anthony Secore. Absolutely avoid Tony for any painting work. What was supposed to be a two-week job turned into a month-long ordeal because of his poor project and time management. He consistently failed to protect floors and fixtures, left cleanup incomplete, used materials unfit for residential interior painting, and cut corners to make up for his deficiencies. Tony showed a complete lack of professionalism and basic competence with painting. Surface preparation was neglected, including skipping sanding, primer, and proper taping. He claimed his quote only included one coat of paint and was demanding more money for more coats of paint. Most notably, when I tried to gently clean the walls with a soft washcloth, the paint came right off. If you need painting, wait until Jason returns to his business—avoid Tony at all costs.Posted on Google Cassandra MitchellTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Timely and detailed work Very passionate about his workPosted on Google Nalin SinhaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jason did a marvelous job painting my outbuilding, a two-story garage and a half. After he got into the job, he found rot had gotten behind the trim pieces around the overhead door. This had been simply covered up by the last painter - the rot was too extensive for it to be recent. He was able to completely fix the problem, though, making it better than new, then complete the painting. It added two days onto his job time but he saw it through. Very professional and the paint job looks GREAT!! We have another job lined up for him in the near future.Posted on Google Scrapper DogTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very detailed oriented and conscientious about making sure the job is not just done, but done right and to expectations. I had a deadline that I was nervous to meet for an event being hosted at my farm. He stood true to his word that he would meet the deadline or he would knock a significant amount off the bill. He was able to meet the deadline and went above and beyond to fix a couple other items on my list of to-do's. It was a huge undertaking and it took a few weeks to complete, but the job was done exceptionally well. Highly recommend!Posted on Google Barb ZiembaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Look no further for all your painting needs. Fantastic communication, Jason also met every timetable he set and was easy to work with. Competitive pricing and tremendous attention to detail which resulted in a flawless painting of the outdoor of my house. Would recommend Jason 100 times out of 100 and wouldn’t consider using another painter in the future for myself. 5 stars excellent work, thank you!Posted on Google Good VibesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We highly recommend Jason for his skill and professionalism. Communication was excellent regarding receiving an estimate, selecting the paint, scheduling, making last-minute changes and the painting itself. He kept us posted as to his arrival time every day and actually showed up... another rare occurrence these days! The project took longer than expected however Jason didn't rush his way through and kept working that Friday evening in order to finish the job to our satisfaction. We would not hesitate to recommend his services to family and friends. Angelo and Valerie AielloPosted on Google Angelo AielloTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
